21 Questions: Amanda Shepherd

In 2015, Amanda made the big jump from the desert to the Bay. After living in Las Vegas for most of her life, she decided to plant some new roots in California. Three years later, Amanda is now Ellipses’ first Digital Content Director. Learn more about her below.

  1. I first knew I wanted to be in PR/Social Media when: I don’t know if I can pinpoint an exact moment that a light bulb went off in my head and I decided that this is what I wanted to do with my life. The fact of the matter is, there is a lot I still want to do with my life. The flexible and ever-changing nature of the social media world allows me to still explore all the things I want to do. The fact that I’ve been able to find a career that allows me so much flexibility and creativity makes me feel like one lucky girl.
  2. My dream client: would be anything Disney related. I will forever and always be a Disney girl at heart.
  3. If I weren’t in PR/Social Media, I would be: a Broadway actress. That has always been a dream of mine. Maybe one day I’ll be able to perform on stage!
  4. Your biggest PR/Social Media horror story: I don’t know that it’s a horror story, per se, but I used to do social media for a digital scrapbook company, and I first learned how to use Photoshop by creating digital scrapbook layouts for social media purposes. Let’s just say, my first ones were NOT pretty, which isn’t good when the entire business relies on visually stunning creations. I have come a long way since then, though.
  5. My first job was: at the UPS store. I could fold and tape a new box in record time.
  6. My biggest accomplishment so far: Running my first half marathon. I don’t think I ever experienced so much pain but crossing that finish line made it all worth it. I was never a runner growing up, and to be quite frank I still hate running, but you never quite understand the phrase “runner’s high” until you’ve experienced it yourself. There is nothing like it.
  7. Favorite social media platform: I love Instagram. It allows you to connect in ways other social media platforms just can’t. It’s so simple. Follow me! @missamander
  8. Biggest pet peeve: I hate when people have poor manners.
  9. Best movie I ever saw: Titanic. I can quote all 3 hours and 14 minutes of it… and I am not ashamed.
  10. Why I love my job, in three words: I can travel.
  11. I’m secretly terrified of: Spiders – but it’s not really a secret. Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t care what size they are; they are awful.
  12. I’m embarrassed to admit it, but I watch Dancing with the Stars. I just want to become famous so I can be on that show and dance with Derek Hough.
  13. Favorite place you’ve traveled to: This is one of the most difficult questions for me to answer, because I love so many different places for different reasons. If I had to pick one, I would pick El Salvador. I think it is a gorgeous and completely underrated country.
  14. If I could go only go to one place before I die, I would go: Chengdu, China, so I can hold a baby panda.
  15. If you could have dinner with anybody, alive or dead, who would it be: Amelia Earhart. I did a research project on her in the fourth grade and have been fascinated by her and her story ever since.
  16. EBooks or physical books: Physical books. I don’t care what anybody says, eBooks can never replace the smell, the feel, and the sound of a real book. EBooks don’t tell the same story that a real book does. You can see the folded edges, you can feel the cracked spine, you can smell the age of the book; you know how good the book is just from the wear of it. EBooks will never be able to give you that.
  17. Favorite thing about the Bay Area? The food here is simply divine.
  18. Top 3 most played songs on my iPod: Little Town – Beauty and the Beast Soundtrack; Don’t Stop Believing – Journey; 3005 – Childish Gambino.
  19. When I’m not working: I am binge-watching Netflix and planning my next adventure.
  20. Favorite publication to read: I read travel blogs more than anything else. Adventurous Kate is one of my favorites.
  21. Advice to future PR/Social Media pros: Be involved with as many internships as you possibly can. The knowledge you’ll gain from a good internship is invaluable.
