THE GASTROPIG BRINGS BACON-Y GOODNESS (AND MORE) TO LUNCH IN UPTOWN OAKLAND

Fast casual spot features freshly made sandwiches for breakfast and lunch
seven days a week near BART and Oakland businesses

Oakland, Calif. – March 15, 2017 – The Gastropig, a pork-centric breakfast sandwich spot in the heart of Uptown, has expanded its menu to include several lunch items, and is now open seven days a week. Oakland entrepreneurs Ann Thai and Loren Goodwin opened Gastropig in January 2017.

Building on the early success of the restaurant’s iconic #Baconslut, Thai and Goodwin have introduced the #Baconslutburger. Available on Mondays only, the Instagram-worthy hamburger features a Niman Ranch beef patty paired with applewood smoked bacon, an over-easy egg, sharp cheddar cheese, house special sauce, lettuce and pickled onions, all served on a brioche roll ($14.75). A hamburger with all of the fixings, minus bacon and eggs, is $10.75.

Gastropig Sloppy JoeA new weekday lunch favorite is the Sloppy Joe, made with Niman Ranch ground chuck and cheddar cheese on a toasted brioche roll ($10.75). Both sandwiches are served with a side of house-made macaroni salad or mixed greens.

Gastropig Grilled CheeseAlso debuting on the menu is a cup of Creamy Tomato Soup made with San Marzano tomatoes ($5), which can be accompanied by The Gastropig’s gooey Grilled Cheddar and Smoked Gouda Cheese Sandwich ($6). Hungry diners can also expect to find two kinds of frittata (vegetable and bacon), in addition to Gastropig’s signature #Baconslut ($9.50), the Scrambled Sando, the Sausage Sandwich ($9.50) and the Avocado Toast with cilantro crema ($8.95), which are available seven days a week.

Guests with a sweet tooth won’t want to miss Gastropig’s chewy Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookie with Pecans and Sea Salt ($5)—or the baconless version for $3.

Gastropig FrittataThe #Baconslut, an applewood smoked bacon sandwich with an over easy egg, cheddar cheese, and Aleppo chili aioli served on a brioche roll, has been a runaway hit for The Gastropig. Within a month of opening, the restaurant had already served 1,995 #Baconslut sandwiches.

“As people who live and work in Oakland ourselves, we saw a need for affordable, high-quality food,” said Goodwin. “But even we were surprised and delighted by the high demand on weekends. To better serve the Uptown community, we decided to open our doors on Saturdays and expand the lunch menu throughout the week.”

The Gastropig is located at 2123 Franklin Street in Oakland and is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and weekends 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The restaurant is located two blocks from the 19th Street BART station. Metered street parking is available. For additional information, please visit www.thegastropig.com or call 510-817-4663.
