SEASONAL CRAFT BREWS AND SPECIAL EVENTS WELCOME THE ARRIVAL OF WINTER AT THE HALF MOON BAY BREWING COMPANY

Winter brews, Dungeness crab to-go, Thanksgiving, family-friendly New Year’s Eve, and more herald the arrival of Half Moon Bay Brewing Company’s 17th winter on the coast

Half Moon Bay, Calif. – October 28, 2016 —Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, a popular Coastside destination known for its award-winning, house-brewed beer, sustainable seafood, live music and scenic outdoor patio fire pit, welcomes the winter season with a slew of exciting events and initiatives, including a special Thanksgiving dinner, Dungeness crab, Funky Sweater & Sneaky Peat Winter Scotch Ale release party, and family-friendly New Year’s Eve.

Winter Brews
Brewmaster James Costa has crafted an array of award-winning beers since his arrival at the Brewing Company in 2013, and this winter sees the release of some annual favorites and new additions.

  • Sneaky Peat Winter Scotch Ale The Scotch Ale is a big malty winter warmer brewed with peated (smoked) malt. With a dark mahogany color and full body, this beer displays flavors of caramel and roasted malt with a lingering hint of smoke on the back end. The effect of barrel aging means that the heavy peat flavor has subsided to be replaced by oak and a slight char, combined with a subtle bourbon essence. Three months later, this scotch ale has come out tasting like a fine Islay scotch.
  • Damage Inc. Imperial Stout Inspired by brewers back in the 1800’s to win over the Russian Czar, this is the king of stouts, boasting high alcohol and plenty of malt character with huge roasted, chocolate and burnt malt flavors. A chewy malt sweetness with suggestions of dark fruit and flavors of higher alcohols are quite evident. Hop character from Columbus, Chinook and Ahtanum, rounds out the attack on the senses. Six months in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels mellowed the alcohol esters, replacing them with sweet vanilla and a slight char flavor.
